Down Memory Lane

Today we took my Dad and Mom out for a drive to Bottrel Alberta (near Cochrane) where they both immigrated in 1948 and 1949. Dad arrived first and Mom's family came a year later. They both had the same sponser....Casey Westra. What hardships they had to endure! These pictures are of a garage that my Dad helped his Dad build in the early 50's. The house is gone now. Ron and I just loved to hear the stories and memories they had to share. I asked them whatever made Dad's Dad leave their familiar country of Holland, pack up 10 kids and no Mom(she died the year before) to a strange land. My Mom said there was no question in her mind why it happened. As soon as Dad and Mom met it was love at first sight , that was God's plan for them. Here they are now 57 years later with 7 married kids, 25 grandchildren and 46 great-grandkids...what a blessing! Thanks for the great day Dad and Mom!!!

Hello Ron and Linda. What a blessing to be able to share this kind of a day with your Mom and Dad! Your dad is absolutely beaming with delight - what a gift you gave him (and your mom) by taking them down memory lane in such a tangible way. Love, Barb

Cool! I also love to hear Grandpa tell stories - they experienced so much that we never will and what a great way to hear about life back then than first hand from someone who lived it!
